Belle Glade native Jeremiah Smith is forging an unconventional path at Ohio State, trading typical wide receiver meetings for the quarterbacks room to study film and break down game plans. This strategy aims to give Smith a new perspective on the game and reportedly strengthens his chemistry with starting quarterback Julian Sayin.
The duo has proven formidable. Their connection was evident in the Buckeyes' 31-14 victory over Iowa, where Smith caught a 54-yard touchdown pass thrown into triple coverage.
Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, who never implemented such a system with his own star receivers, acknowledged hearing of similar approaches. He praised Smith's dedication, calling him a "generational athlete" whose commitment mirrors the hard work seen on Belle Glade's football fields.
Smith's dedication is yielding historic results. He now holds Ohio State's program records for career receiving yards (3,381), catches (207), and touchdowns (36), all within two and a half seasons. He also stands on the cusp of Big Ten history, needing to surpass John Standeford for the conference career receiving yards record.
