A Storm Surge Watch has been issued by the NWS New Orleans LA for Lower Plaquemines Parish, effective today, October 7, at 10:12 AM CDT. This watch includes Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice. Life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland is possible within the next 48 hours. Residents are urged to prepare immediately.
Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible. Prepare for life-threatening storm surge flooding, assemble disaster supplies, and know your evacuation route. Leave if evacuation orders are given for your area, as failure to heed orders may result in loss of life. The window of concern for storm surge is from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Tropical storm-force winds are also possible within the next 48 hours, with peak winds forecast at 25-35 mph and gusts to 40 mph. However, there is a potential for wind of 74 to 110 mph. Rigorously undertake efforts to protect life and property now and prepare for considerable wind damage. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous.
