Southern Hancock County is under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, effective immediately. Residents in Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland should prepare for life-threatening storm surge.

A storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible in surge-prone areas, with the window of concern lasting through Saturday morning. All flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from potential storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Community officials are currently assessing wind impacts, with little to no additional wind impacts expected. Peak wind gusts of 25-35 mph are forecast, with gusts up to 45 mph, remaining below tropical storm force. Listen for instructions from local officials and ensure emergency readiness.

There is little to no potential for flooding rain or tornadoes. Monitor for any changes to the forecast. This warning is in effect until October 9, 2026, at 6:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit msema.org.
