Residents in Southern Hancock County, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, must remain sheltered in a safe location immediately. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Storm Surge Warning effective until 7:15 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026, indicating a potential for life-threatening storm surge.

Forecasts show peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas. This threat is expected to continue through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding.

While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 45 mph), residents should still listen for instructions from local officials and ensure emergency readiness. No significant rainfall or tornado threats are expected at this time. Do not venture outside. For more information, visit msema.org.
