A life-threatening Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County by the NWS, with 3-5 feet of surge possible, along with hazardous winds and localized flooding. Residents should complete preparations and be ready to evacuate if ordered.

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans LA, effective immediately until 6:15 PM UTC today, October 8, 2026. Residents in these areas should prepare for life-threatening conditions.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for localized wind damage, including damage to lightweight structures and downed tree limbs. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and elevated roadways are possible, and scattered power outages may occur.

Around 1 inch of localized flooding rain is also expected. Be aware of potential localized flooding and heed any flood watches and warnings.
