NEW ORLEANS, LA – October 9, 2026, 4:21 AM CDT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans has issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement regarding Hurricane Isaias, which is strengthening and expected to approach the Northern Gulf Coast as a dangerous hurricane later today.
Residents in Lower St. Bernard, Southeast St. Tammany, Eastern Orleans, Lower Plaquemines, Southern Hancock, and Southern Harrison are under a Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning. A Hurricane Warning and Storm Surge Warning are in effect for Southern Jackson Parish. Northern Hancock and Northern Harrison are under a Tropical Storm Warning, while Northern Jackson is under a Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch.
As of 4:21 AM CDT, Hurricane Isaias is located approximately 280 miles south-southeast of New Orleans, with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph, moving north-northeast at 15 mph. Impacts are most likely this afternoon into Saturday morning.
Significant storm surge of 3 to 5 feet is expected for coastal areas from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Alabama/Mississippi state line. Life-threatening surge is anticipated in coastal areas east of Ocean Springs in Mississippi. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible in coastal Mississippi, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Damage to property and power outages are also possible due to strong winds.
