Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Southern Hancock, Life-Threatening Storm Surge Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Southern Hancock, with life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet expected; residents must shelter immediately.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans, LA, effective October 9 at 4:00 PM CDT. Residents in Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland should shelter immediately due to a life-threatening storm surge.
The NWS forecasts a potential for 3-5 feet of storm surge inundation above ground in surge-prone areas, continuing through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from flood zones. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 40 mph, conditions may be gusty. Little to no additional significant rainfall or tornado threat is currently anticipated. For more information and updates, visit msema.org.
