Southern Hancock residents, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service New Orleans/Baton Rouge. This warning, effective as of October 7 at 9:59 PM CDT, indicates that tropical storm-force winds and life-threatening storm surge are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning expires on October 8 at 6:00 AM UTC.

A Storm Surge Warning is also in effect, meaning there is a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland. Peak storm surge inundation is forecast to be 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Residents in these areas should complete all evacuation efforts and flood preparations now. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Winds are expected to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Efforts to protect property should be underway immediately. Act now to secure loose objects and complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. Scattered power and communication outages are possible. For more information and updates, visit msema.org.
