Dangerous Surf and Rip Currents Expected for South Walton, Coastal Bay
A High Surf Warning and High Rip Current Risk are in effect for South Walton and Coastal Bay, with dangerous 8-12 foot waves and life-threatening rip currents expected from Friday morning through Sunday.
Residents and visitors in South Walton and Coastal Bay areas are urged to stay out of the water due to a High Surf Warning and High Rip Current Risk issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. The High Surf Warning is effective from 10 AM CDT Friday, October 9, until 10 AM CDT Sunday, October 11.
Dangerously large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are expected in the surf zone for Walton and Bay County beaches. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are anticipated. The High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Sunday night, with rip currents capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore.
The NWS advises everyone to remain out of the water. Avoid jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, swim parallel to the shore if possible, or face the shore and call for help.
