URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Extreme Winds for Coastal Bay
Coastal Bay residents, including Panama City and Mexico Beach, face life-threatening storm surge up to 7 feet, extreme winds, major flooding, and tornado threats starting early Friday afternoon; immediate action and evacuations are critical.
Coastal Bay residents, including Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George, must take immediate action as a Storm Surge Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued this warning on October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT, indicating life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds are imminent.
Evacuation efforts for storm surge should be completed immediately. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning, with potential for localized inundation over 6 feet. Significant structural damage and impassable roads are anticipated. Move to safe shelter now, as tropical storm force winds (30-40 mph, gusts to 60 mph) are expected from early Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Wind gusts up to 73 mph are possible, capable of causing significant property damage and widespread power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to major flooding and potential evacuations. Several tornadoes are also possible. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; be prepared to shelter quickly. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee, floridadisaster.org, or baycountyfl.gov/EmergencyManagement. This alert is effective until October 9, 2026, 7:15 AM UTC.
