A Rip Current Statement has been issued for South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties until tomorrow morning, warning of dangerous rip currents.

SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD: The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a Rip Current Statement for South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties. This statement is effective immediately, October 5, 2026, at 1:32 PM EDT, and remains in effect until 5:00 AM EDT on October 6, 2026.

Dangerous rip currents are expected across Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin County Beaches through late tonight. Rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from the shoreline into deeper water.

For your safety, the NWS advises swimming only near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
