The Polk County Sheriff's Office is seeking new information regarding the unsolved homicide of Charles Britton, who died July 12, 1981. Britton, a 28-year-old store clerk, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the Shop-N-Go at 320 South Combee Road in Lakeland.
Investigators report Britton was forced into the store's cooler before being fatally shot with a shotgun. The Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit continues to investigate the 43-year-old case. They urge anyone who may have witnessed the events of that day or possesses any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.
