Polk Sheriff's Office Renews Search in 1978 Elizabeth Batchelor Cold Case
Polk County authorities are renewing their call for information regarding the 1978 unsolved homicide of Elizabeth Batchelor, whose remains were discovered in a burning vehicle. The Sheriff's Office urges anyone with details to come forward.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is again asking for the public's help to solve the 1978 homicide of Elizabeth Batchelor. Authorities discovered Batchelor's remains on Aug. 1, 1978.
Deputies found Batchelor's 1976 Ford pickup truck burning after it crashed into a tree on Cass Road in Lake Alfred. Investigators found Batchelor's badly burned remains inside the vehicle. An autopsy determined she was likely dead before the fire began, indicating foul play.
The case remains open. The Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at (863) 298-6379 or [email protected]. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
