Library Closed for Staff Training on October 9
Tabb Library and Yorktown Library will be closed to the public on Friday, October 9, 2026, to conduct its annual Staff Development Day. This full-day closure allows all library personnel to participate in professional training, safety workshops, and planning sessions. This dedicated time ensures that staff can continue to deliver high-quality programs, digital resources, and exceptional customer service to the community. Important Details for Patrons Regarding the Closure Digital Access The library’s digital collection remains open 24/7. Patrons can continue to stream and download ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and magazines through Libby, Kanopy, Freegal, Magzter, and more. Access the digital collection through the library's website. Book Drops Outdoor book return bins will remain open during the closure for patrons wishing to return borrowed materials. Library Cards
Your York County Public Library card opens the door to a world of information. The Library offers books, DVDs, CDs, eBooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, electronic resources, Internet access and more. My Library Card Renew items, place holds, review holds and view overdue items on your account through the My Account feature in the online library catalog. Enter the barcode from the back of your library card to access your account. Apply for a Library Card York County Public Library cards are available to all residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia, ages 4 and over, free of charge. To issue a library card to a new patron, the Library requires: Proof of Identity such as a driver's license, military ID or passport. Proof of Address such as a bill, printed checkbook or automobile registration with the patron's current address. Completed application for a York County Public Library card. Applications are available at the Circulation and Reference desk. The application is also available to download, complete, print, and bring to the Circulation desk on your next visit to the library. A parent or legal guardian must sign the application for patrons ages 4 to 16. Loan Periods 21 Days for most books in general circulation, large print books, audiobooks on CD, music CDs, and all magazines except the current issue. Items can be renewed if not on hold for another patron. 14 Days for books designated as new, Caldecott and Newbery Award books, and OverDrive eBooks and audiobooks. New items are renewable if not on hold. 7 Days for all videos. Items are renewable if not on hold. Renew Items You may renew your items in person at the Library, by phone, or online. Call the Tabb Library, 757-890-5130, or Yorktown Library, 757-890-5205, during library operating hours to renew items by telephone. You may renew items online 24 hours a day through the My Account feature in the library catalog. You must have your library card number to renew online. Note that items can be renewed no more than two times in succession. Return Items Items may be returned to either the Tabb or Yorktown Library regardless of where you checked them out. Items may also be placed in the book drop at Tabb or Yorktown. Items returned to the book drop before opening will be checked in as if they were returned the previous day. Fines & Lost/Damaged Items Replacement cost and a processing fee will be charged on all materials lost or damaged beyond repair. The processing fee for adult materials is $5 per item and juvenile materials is $3 per item. Fines for overdue Interlibrary Loan materials are $1 per day per item. Patrons may use Visa/MasterCard, checks and cash to pay fines and fees. Lost Library Cards A library card that is lost is replaced once free of charge. There is a $2 charge for subsequent replacements.

Computers for Public Use Public computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Library cardholders may use the computers for three hours each day. If you do not have a library card, you can use your photo ID to obtain a single use guest pass and use the computers for 60 minutes. Public computers have Internet Explorer and Chrome for web browsing and Microsoft Office 2016 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Files you create may be saved to your USB flash drive. Printing can only be done on library-supplied paper. Copy Machines Coin-operated black and white photocopiers are available for public use. Donations of Used Items The Library welcomes your donation of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs. Donations are accepted at the Reference desk. We do not accept books with water damage, mold, mildew, missing pages or missing covers. Also, we do not accept magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, medical books, condensed books, or library discards. All donations become the property of the Library. Fax Machine A fax machine is not available for public use. Honor Books A large selection of paperback books is available on the honor system. These books are checked out at the Circulation desk, but do not have a specific due date. Return them when you are finished. Income Tax Forms A limited quantity of federal tax forms are available at both libraries. The 1040 Form Booklet and 1040 Instructions (including the instructions for Schedules 1 through 6) are available. They arrive late-January and are available until April 30. Patrons may call the IRS at 1-800-829-3676 to have forms mailed to them. Current, prior and accessible forms, instructions and Publications are available on the IRS website. The Library does not have Virginia tax forms. Virginia tax forms are available online at the Virginia Department of Taxation. AARP Tax-Aide is not available at the Library. Return to Top Interlibrary Loans An Interlibrary Loan allows the Library to borrow materials for county residents from other libraries. For more information, view Interlibrary Loans. Job & Career Resources The Library offers a comprehensive list of job and career resources for our patrons. Resources include books and ebooks on career exploration, an interactive online library of practice tests and tutorials, resume and interview tips and job search information. Library Cards Learn how to apply for a library card, renew items online, access your account online, and more. Nature Backpack York County residents with library cards in good standing can borrow a Nature Backpack at the Youth Services desk. Contact the Tabb Library, 757-890-5110, or Yorktown Library, 757-890-3236, to check backpack availability and place a hold. Backpacks can be checked out for two weeks. Renewals are not available. Backpacks must be returned to Youth Services desk where they were checked out. Fines for overdue backpacks are $5 per day. Replacement costs will be charged on all items lost or damaged beyond repair. Each backpack comes with a parking pass for free parking/entrance to all Virginia State Parks. Backpacks also feature: pocket guides to weather, edible wild plants, and medicinal plants of the Eastern Woodlands; port-a-bug field observation container; Big Foot Leave No Trace Ethics Card; star map; compass; binoculars; dip net; and suggested activities. Notary Notary service is available free of charge by appointment at the Tabb Library and Yorktown Library. Call Tabb Reference at 757-890-5120 or Yorktown Reference at 757-890-5207 to request a notary appointment. Note that acceptable proof of identity is required before a document can be notarized. Acceptable proof of identity is a United States passport, a certificate of United States citizenship, a certificate of naturalization, an unexpired foreign passport, an alien registration card with photograph, a state-issued driver's license, a state-issued identification card or a United States military card. All documents must be signed in the presence of the notary. If a document must be witnessed, you must provide your own witnesses.
