Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Barbour County: Prepare for Severe Conditions
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Barbour County, including Eufaula, starting October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT, with threats of hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and several tornadoes; residents should take immediate action to prepare.
Barbour County residents, especially those in Eufaula, must take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective immediately, October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT. The warning remains in effect until October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC.
Prepare for hazardous wind with gusts up to 45 mph, which could cause limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot. Complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelters. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes could cause significant damage, including torn-off roofs and demolished mobile homes.
