Heat Advisory Issued for San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Foothills Through Sunday
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Foothills by NWS Hanford CA, with temperatures up to 103 degrees expected from Saturday through Sunday, posing a risk of heat illnesses.
A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford CA, effective immediately, for the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Foothills. Residents are advised to take precautions against expected high temperatures reaching up to 103 degrees Fahrenheit.
The advisory is in effect from 11 AM PDT Saturday, October 3, until 10 PM PDT Sunday, October 4. The NWS warns that these hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, posing a moderate to major risk for much of the population, particularly those without effective cooling or hydration.
Areas affected include: West Side Mountains north of 198; Los Banos - Dos Palos; Merced - Madera - Mendota; Planada - Le Grand - Snelling; Coalinga - Avenal; West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties; Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma; Fresno-Clovis; West Side Mountains South of 198; Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5; Delano-Wasco-Shafter; Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore; Visalia - Porterville - Reedley; Buena Vista; Bakersfield; Southeast San Joaquin Valley; South End San Joaquin Valley; Mariposa Madera Foothills; Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra; Fresno-Tulare Foothills; Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra; South End Sierra Foothills; and South End of the Lower Sierra.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, the NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors.
