High temperatures up to 104 degrees are expected, with the highest temperatures anticipated in the southern San Joaquin Valley. Overnight lows are forecast to remain between 70 and 75 degrees in the Sierra Foothills. The advisory impacts the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, including areas such as Fresno-Clovis, Bakersfield, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, and Mariposa-Madera Foothills, among others. A comprehensive list of affected areas is available on the NWS Hanford website.
The NWS warns that these hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. There is a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, particularly for those without effective cooling or proper hydration.
To stay safe, the NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. These measures are crucial to mitigate the risks associated with the prolonged heat event.
