Landspout Threatens Ichetucknee Spring Area, Seek Shelter

A strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and 50 mph wind gusts is moving north over Ichetucknee Spring, impacting multiple counties; seek indoor shelter immediately. Expires 5:30 PM EDT.

Residents in Suwannee, Baker, Union, Bradford, Gilchrist, Eastern Hamilton, Eastern Alachua, Western Alachua, Northern Columbia, Southeastern Columbia, and Southwestern Columbia counties are advised to seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm identified by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL.

At 4:52 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout over Ichetucknee Spring. This storm is moving north at 30 mph. Hazards include landspouts and wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Areas specifically impacted include Lake City, Live Oak, White Springs, Bell, Worthington Spring, Ichetucknee Spring, Columbia, Alachua, High Springs, and Fort White.

This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately, issued at 4:53 PM EDT, and expires at 5:30 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern and northeastern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT.

If you are outdoors, immediately seek shelter inside a building.
