Voter Registration Deadline for the 2026 General Election is Monday, October 5th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 1, 2026 Voter Registration Deadline for the 2026 General Election is Monday, October 5th Voters already registered are encouraged to verify their registration information PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – Monday, October 5, 2026, is the deadline to register to vote in the 2026 General Election. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Voters already registered are encouraged to verify that their registration information, including their name, address, and party affiliation, is accurate before the deadline. Additionally, voters are encouraged to verify their Election Day polling place. Registering to vote or updating voter registration information can be done online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov (fastest method), by mail, or in person by completing a Florida Voter Registration Application available at VotePalmBeach.gov or at other designated voter registration agencies. Certain voter registration updates can also be made by calling (561) 656-6200. 2026 General Election Dates & Deadlines Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Deadline to register to vote: Monday, October 5, 2026. Expand all Collapse all Special Purpose Investment Account The Florida State Treasury operates a special investment program for public entities. This program is authorized in Section 17.61(1), Florida Statutes and is called the Special Purpose Investment Account (SPIA). Component Units of the State, Universities, or Colleges that are created by the Florida Constitution or Florida Statutes are eligible to invest in SPIA. SPIA funds are combined with State funds and are invested as part of the Treasury Investment Pool. The Treasury Investment Pool invests in a combination of short-term liquid instruments and intermediate term fixed income securities. Participants have the ability to invest and obtain funds same day with an 11:00 a.m. deadline. Earnings are posted monthly based on a pro-rata share of total Treasury earnings. Each SPIA participant is assessed a monthly administrative fee of 0.12% of their average daily balance. An investment in SPIA is not a deposit in a bank and is not insured or guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or any other government agency. Although SPIA seeks to preserve principal it is not a guaranteed investment. OPS Social Security Alternative Plan The State of Florida Social Security Alternative Plan is an alternative retirement income program established by the IRS Section 3121(b)(7)(F) and Section 110.1315, Florida Statutes. OPS Employees are required to contribute at a rate of 7.5% of pre-tax salary instead of contributing to Social Security. Audits Investigations Authority Section 20.055 (2), Florida Statutes, provides that the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is established in each state agency to provide a central point for coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity and efficiency in government. The major responsibilities of the OIG include investigations, audits, reviews, consulting and technical assistance activities. The Offices of Insurance Regulation (OIR) and Financial Regulation (OFR) each have their own separate inspectors general. On occasion, the DFS Inspector General may work with the OIR or OFR Inspectors General on projects of mutual interest. FLHSMV is the state agency responsible for collecting, maintaining and reporting on Florida’s official crash, traffic citation and driver & vehicle data. In collaboration with its various partners, the FHP leads and implements the state’s traffic safety and education initiatives through participation in numerous national and state education and enforcement campaigns. Due to its geography, increasing population and thriving tourism industry, the state of Florida consistently ranks as one of the highest traffic fatality states in the nation. Identity Theft & Driver License Fraud Protection Language | Idioma English Español The federal REAL ID Act of 2005 set new standards for the issuance of driver licenses and ID cards. The REAL ID Act became effective nationwide on May 11, 2008. Florida began issuing REAL ID compliant credentials after January 1, 2010. During this time and through September 30, 2026, the credentials had a star in the upper right corner of the card, as shown in the sample license example on the right. On September 30, 2026, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) began issuing a newly designed Florida driver license and identification card that incorporates the Florida gator into the REAL ID star in the top righthand corner of all cards. Florida is a REAL ID compliant state, and all Florida licenses should be accepted nationwide. The Department of Homeland Security announced on December 20, 2013, that enforcement of REAL ID credentials will begin in a measured, fair and responsible way. The chart below summarizes the four phases of enforcement. New Resident – Welcome to Florida! Language | Idioma English Español You may be considered a resident of Florida when you: Have started employment or engaged in a trade, profession, or occupation in this state. Have enrolled your children in the public schools of this state. Have registered to vote in this state. Have filed for homestead tax exemption on property in this state. Have lived in this state for a period of more than six consecutive months. As a new Florida resident, you must obtain a valid Florida driver license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads. In addition, you must obtain insurance from a Florida insurance agent that is licensed to sell insurance in Florida in order to title and register your vehicle(s), vessel(s), and mobile home(s) within 10 days of establishing residency. Driver’s License/ID Cards Applications for driver’s licenses/ID cards must be made in person at any local office offering driver licenses services. When applying for a driver license, you will be given a vision test, however you may be eligible to receive a license without taking a written or road test. The fee for an initial Florida Class E license (including learner’s permit) is $48.00, a commercial driver license (Class A) license is $75.00 and endorsements are $7.00 each. The fee for an ID Card is $25.00. Most local Tax Collector offices also charge a $6.25 service fee. For a complete list of driver license fees, click here. Required Documentation For a list of the required documentation you will need to obtain a Florida driver license or Florida ID card, please click on your applicable residency status below: U.S. Citizen Immigrant Non-Immigrant Canadian Title/Registration For vehicles with a lien: If the out-of-state title is currently in the possession of an out-of-state lienholder, you must contact the lienholder to request that the title be transferred to Florida. Regardless of whether the lienholder will transfer the title to Florida or not, you must have your vehicle registered. If the lienholder refuses to transfer title from the previous state, request for them to send that to you in writing on letterhead. Once you obtain that letter, you may bring it to a motor vehicle service center to apply for a registration. If the lienholder agrees to have the title transferred to Florida, you may visit a local motor vehicle service center to complete the Application for Certificate of Title With/Without Registration (HSMV form 82040). For vehicles without a lien: Prepare a packet containing the following: (Please note: special circumstances may require additional documentation.) Proof of identity (required for all owners) Proof of Florida insurance Original out-of-state title When applying for title, ALL owners are required to sign a completed Application for Certificate of Title With/Without Registration (HSMV form 82040). Verification of physical inspection of the motor vehicle’s vehicle identification number (VIN), completed on an Application for Certificate of Title With/Without Registration (HSMV form 82040) or Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification (HSMV form 82042). The VIN must be physically inspected and verified by one of the following: A Law Enforcement Officer. A Military Police Officer. A licensed Florida Dealer. A county tax collector employee or Division of Motorist Services Compliance Examiner (which can be located at any local service center offering motor vehicle services). What to Bring
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security REAL ID Act became effective nationwide in 2008, mandating new standards for the issuance of driver licenses and identification cards. Florida began issuing REAL ID-compliant credentials January 1, 2010. New driver licenses and ID cards have a star in the upper right corner of the card, indicating that they are REAL ID-compliant. As part of the REAL ID Act, there are documentation requirements for residents renewing or obtaining a new driver license or ID card. For the first in-office issuance after January 1, 2010, customers must bring original documents that validate their identity, Social Security Number (SSN) and residential address. Customers must visit an office with the required documents if: They are applying for their first driver license or ID card; Their current credential expires and their current driver license or ID card does not have a star in the upper corner; or They have legally changed their name since their last issuance (e.g., by marriage, divorce or court order). The name(s) on their marriage certificate(s) or court order must show how their birth name was changed to their current name. If their name has changed multiple times and the document they provide shows their current name and their birth name, they need only bring the final name change document. If the final marriage certificate does not have both names, they will need to bring all documents that show how their name changed from birth name to current name. Note: In accordance with the REAL ID Act, once a customer provides the required identity documents, they will only need to provide them again if their information changes (e.g., name, residential address). After May 7, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will only accept driver licenses and ID cards with a star in the upper right corner as proof of identification at airports. Individuals currently seeking access to military bases and most Federal facilities must present REAL ID-compliant identification. A United States passport may also be used in place of a REAL ID-compliant card for official identification. ECI is a secure system that only law enforcement nationwide can access in order to contact your designated family or friends in response to an emergency situation. Who will have access to my info? Law Enforcement Agencies have access for the purpose of contacting those you have listed in the event of an emergency. As of July 1, 2022, pursuant to s. 394.463(2)(a) or s. 397.6772(1)(a), a receiving facility, hospital, or licensed detoxification or addictions receiving facility has access to your emergency contact information for the sole purpose of notifying those you have listed of your whereabouts. Will my information be used for any other purpose? No. This information is only used to notify the contacts that you designate in the event of an emergency. Why was this system developed? The system was first developed in Florida because there was no emergency contact program in place to quickly notify loved ones in the event of an emergency. ECI was initiated by Christine Olson in loving memory of her daughter Tiffiany because she was involved in a fatal crash and it was over 6 hours before Christine was notified. Christine’s daughter Tiffiany Olson was involved in a traffic crash on U.S. 19 in Manatee County, Florida. Tiffiany received fatal injuries when the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with another vehicle. Ms. Olson was not notified of Tiffiany’s passing for several hours and was not able to say her last goodbyes. Since that day, Ms. Olson, with the assistance of State Representative Bill Galvano from Bradenton District 68, began pushing for emergency information to be added to a person’s driver’s license or identification card. Since the information could not be printed directly on a license, Ms. Olson and Rep. Galvano contacted the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and took the next best route-to have the information included in the D.A.V.I.D. (Driver And Vehicle Information Database) system which is a secured database used by most law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida. Ms. Olson and her family and FLHSMV are urging all licensed drivers in the State of Florida to input their information so families can be contacted more quickly when a family member is seriously injured or killed in a traffic crash.
