Bee Cave Earns International Dark Sky Community Status

Bee Cave has earned designation as an International Dark Sky Community from the International Dark-Sky Association, recognizing the city's commitment to reducing light pollution.
The association announced the designation on June 17, 2024. Bee Cave retrofitted streetlights with dark sky-friendly LED fixtures, launched education programs for residents and businesses, and partnered with local organizations to promote responsible lighting practices.
"This designation reflects the hard work of our residents, city staff, and community partners," Mayor Kara King said. "By implementing responsible lighting policies, we're protecting our environment and enhancing quality of life."
Dark sky-friendly lighting cuts energy consumption and lowers utility costs. It preserves nocturnal wildlife, improves human health, and enables stargazing and astronomical observation.
The city plans to continue implementing responsible lighting policies and collaborating with partners on preservation efforts.
