A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Auburn and Opelika in Lee County, prompting urgent preparation for hazardous winds up to 45 mph, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes; complete preparations now.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lee County, including Auburn and Opelika, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT. Residents are advised to complete all preparations now.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with potential for scattered power outages and damage to lightweight outdoor structures. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Driving conditions may become hazardous, especially on elevated roadways, and a few roads could become impassable due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches, with localized higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are possible. Avoid driving through flooded areas.
The situation is also favorable for a few tornadoes. Have a plan for immediate shelter if a tornado warning is issued. This warning is set to expire on October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
