Asheville Municipal Golf Course Wins NC Statewide Award
Asheville Municipal Golf Course earned Regional Winner honors in the 2026 Best of North Carolina Awards, placing it among fewer than 10 percent of businesses statewide to receive the distinction.
The recognition comes as the Donald Ross-designed course recovers from Tropical Storm Helene. The back nine remains open for play. City staff converted the damaged front nine into a disc golf course while the Municipal Golf Course Front 9 Restoration Project proceeds.
The city expects FEMA Public Assistance funding to support the restoration. Residents can track progress and sign up for updates on the city's project page.
Asheville Municipal Golf Course opened in 1927 as North Carolina's first public golf course and later became the Southeast's first integrated public golf course. The clubhouse and course earned placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
Golfers can reserve tee times for the back nine through the Asheville Muni website.
