Sikeston Parks, Recreation & Facility Rentals
The City of Sikeston has a total of 16 parks, 8 trails, including the Cottonbelt Trail, and the Clinton Building in our park system, which is supervised by a Parks and Recreation Director and a 9-member advisory Park Board. Maintenance is provided by a 4-person Park Division under the direct supervision of a Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Recreation programming is organized and facilitated by a Recreation Coordinator. Several of our parks have picnic shelters/pavilions that are available to reserve for special events such as family reunions, company gatherings and church picnics. Legion Park is also located Downtown and has a bandstand near our newest splashpad. Lincoln Park is the home to our newest splashpad and has several pavilions adjacent to rent. Splashpads cannot be reserved for private use but the pavilions and shelters near them are available to rent. To make a park reservation, please visit our Reservation Website, as all rentals are now made online. There is a fee for picnic shelter reservations for the Recreation Complex, Rotary Park, Lincoln Park, Legion Park, and the bandstand at Malone Park. Fees are $10 for up to 4 hours. The Clinton Building is our Community Services Building donated by Ray and Dorothy Clinton in May of 2002. There are three rental size options, with the largest option having a seating capacity of 230 people. You can see all pricing, available dates, photos, rental agreements, etc. on our Reservation Website, as all rentals are now made online only. **IMPORTANT**All park shelter/pavilion rentals, Clinton Building rentals and Recreation Program registrations are now done exclusively online. We currently have 3rd-6th grade rec league basketball and added in a cheer program to go with basketball. "I'M BORED. I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING TO DO!"We've got plenty to do! Scott County Annual Tax Sale Scheduled for August 26
The annual Scott County Tax Sale will be held on Monday, August 26th, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM in the Scott County Courthouse. Registration will close August 23rd, and bidders must present a driver's license and social security card for registration.

City Council Honors Anti-Littering Winners, Approves Property Requests
Actions from the Sikeston City Council meeting held Monday, March 2, 2026, were: Mayor Greg Turnbow honored winners of the Anti-Littering Poster Contest. Winners were: 1st place - Livy-Gray Hammontree, 5th grade Sikeston Middle School ($100); 2nd place - Lucy Chapman, 2nd grade Lee Hunter Elementary ($75); 3rd place – Lo Chapman, 5th grade Sikeston Middle School ($50); Best Class – Sheri Jackson, Southeast Elementary ($100). Honorable mentions were: Kendall Oetting, 4th grade St. Francis Xavier; Charlie Wicker, 4th grade Southeast Elementary; Lana Gaab, 4th grade The Christian Academy. (Each honorable mention winner will receive a Malco Theater movie pass and a large pizza from Pizza Inn) Council approved the request to re-plat the subdivision of lots 1-3, 15 and 16 of block 4 of Sunset Addition, 100 Westgate in Sikeston for Hatchett Holdings, LLC. Tract 1, lot 3, Washington Street will revert to the city for ownership and maintenance. Council approved the request to vacate the alley within lots 1-3, 15 and 16 of block 4 of Sunset Addition, 100 Westgate in Sikeston for Hatchett Holdings, LLC. Council appointed Dan Hinton to fill a PAWS Advisory Board position for Blake Bain, who resigned. The term will expire in October 2026. Council approved the city counselor contract that was set to expire on April 30, 2026. The contract is for a three-year period, effective May 1, 2026. There are no material changes from the existing contract. Council awarded the bid of contractual mowing services for city nuisance lots and LCRA lots to Grow-N-Mow LLC in the amount of $3,500 monthly. The typical mowing season is from April through October. The payment for mowing services will be paid by the City of Sikeston and reimbursed by LCRA. Council awarded multiple bids for contractual mowing services for city-maintained properties. Sikeston City Council Discusses FY27 Budget, Approves Projects
"Actions from the Sikeston City Council meeting held on Monday, May 4, 2026, were: A public hearing was held on the proposed FY27 budget. For the second year in a row, most major revenue sources are trending down, including sales tax, use tax, marijuana tax, interest income, telephone franchise fees and video service franchise fees. Meanwhile major cost drivers continue to trend higher, like personnel costs, health insurance, property/liability insurance, vehicle costs and more. However, due to conservative budgeting and careful spending over many years, the city is in a strong financial position to manage this downturn. The budget will be brought before council again on June 1 with the final vote set for June 8. Some key highlights are: Construction of Fire Station 2 will continue with completion expected by the end of the year. Some money is set aside for the Ingram Interchange, which is waiting for final approval from MoDOT. The city is working with the legislature to secure additional funding to finish the project. The continuation of ShotSpotter, which has been extremely successful for Sikeston DPS. Previously grants covered the costs of ShotSpotter but this year the city will take over the annual fees. $4.2 million for street and drainage projects with $1 million earmarked for the street maintenance program. Several CDBG programs will be finishing in 2027. 3% wage increase for all employees. Council approved renewing the city prosecuting attorney contract which is set to expire on June 30. The proposed contract for city prosecuting attorney Tabatha Graham is for an annual fee of $32,000. In addition, she will be compensated an additional $19,000 for her costs in providing prosecutorial assistance. There are no material changes from the existing contract. Council approved the renewal of the Municipal Judge contract. Municipal Judge Frank Marshall has served in this role since 1993, and the proposed contract includes a slight increase over previous contracts at $32,400 per year. Council approved a change order for CDBG drainage improvements along the Linn Street ditch. Upon recommendation of Waters Engineering, it was advised that additional riprap, which is loose stone that forms a foundation for a breakwater, would be necessary for erosion control along the whole ditch due to water flow. The additional construction cost added by the change order is $124,397. Council approved the CY2026 Street and Drainage Program. The project includes the milling and resurfacing of several city streets while other potential alternate projects are included if funding becomes available. Council approved entering into an agreement with Waters Engineering, Inc., for preliminary planning and design engineering services related to drainage improvements in the north end of Sikeston. The proposed project will elevate and develop solutions to address ongoing drainage concerns in this area, including the potential construction of a stormwater detention basin and improvements to the existing Greenbriar Ditch system. These improvements are intended to reduce flooding risks and improve overall stormwater management for surrounding properties. Waters Engineering will perform preliminary planning services, including data collection, field surveys, conceptual design development, cost estimating and assistance with right-of-way identification and acquisition. They will also complete preliminary design engineering, including preparation of detailed drawings, updated cost estimates and support for permitting and funding applications. The total cost for these services is a lump sum of $140,000. Council approved the purchase and implementation of RapidWarn Weather Alerting, an automatic/manual activation system for the city’s existing outdoor warning siren network. The RapidWarn system enables unattended activation during emergency situations, allowing dispatch personnel to remain focused on critical police, fire and emergency medical communications. The cost for purchase and implementation is $20,675, with an ongoing annual cost of approximately $2,000 for maintenance and system updates. Funding for this purchase is available within the current 911 budget. Dinah Tatman, new pastor at Bethel AME Church in Sikeston, introduced herself to council and the community.
