A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Dallas, Madison, and Polk Counties, including West Des Moines, Urbandale, and Clive, until 10:45 PM CDT tonight, October 8. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines issued the warning at 10:14 PM CDT.
At the time of issuance, a severe thunderstorm was located near Adel, moving southeast at 30 mph. This storm is capable of producing half-dollar sized hail. Damage to vehicles is expected.
Locations impacted include West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, Winterset, Adel, Earlham, De Soto, Van Meter, Jordan Creek Town Center, Valley West Mall, Redfield, and Badger Creek State Park. The warning also includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 70 and 72, Interstate 80 between mile markers 102 and 125, and Interstate 235 between mile markers 1 and 2.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building immediately. The warning is effective until 10:45 PM CDT.
