Beach Hazards Statement Issued: Minor Flooding, Dangerous Rip Currents Expected
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas from October 5-9, 2026, warning of minor coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents due to high tides and elevated surf.
Residents and visitors to San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas should exercise caution in and near the water due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA. The statement is in effect from Tuesday afternoon, October 5, through Friday evening, October 9, 2026.
Minor coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents are expected. These conditions are due to a combination of high tides and elevated surf. Elevated surf of 3-5 feet is anticipated on south and southwest-facing beaches. High tides are expected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet, most likely during the evenings.
The NWS advises that minor coastal flooding and minor coastal erosion are possible during these high tide periods. A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as strong rip currents and other hazards are possible. Caution should be used when in or near the water.
