Beach Hazards, Coastal Flood Warnings Issued for San Diego, Orange Counties
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Warning are in effect for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas, with significant flooding, beach erosion, and dangerous surf expected through Tuesday, October 13. Take immediate action to protect property and avoid flooded areas.
Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County coastal areas are advised to take immediate action due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA.
A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 3 PM PDT Sunday, October 11, with significant coastal flooding and beach erosion expected. A Beach Hazards Statement is also in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, with surf predicted to be 5 to 7 feet, with local sets up to 9 feet. A Coastal Flood Advisory follows, from 3 PM Sunday until 2 PM PDT Tuesday, October 13, anticipating minor coastal flooding.
Impacts include potential closures of numerous roads and beach boardwalks due to high water. Low-lying properties, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, may experience flooding during morning high tides. Elevated surf will create a high risk of rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions. The greatest impacts are expected this morning due to Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel, combining increased swell, onshore winds, and high tides exceeding 7.5 feet.
The NWS advises taking necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
