MONROE COUNTY, MS – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, TN has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Monroe County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:10 PM CDT. This warning includes the communities of Amory and Aberdeen.

Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Potential impacts include damage to carports and sheds, broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is expected, creating a potential for moderate flooding. This could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Avoid driving through flooded areas, as roads may become impassable.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but residents should remain informed of any forecast changes. The Tropical Storm Warning expires October 10 at 6:15 AM UTC. For more information, visit weather.gov/memphis.
