Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Monroe: Prepare for Winds and Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Monroe County, including Amory and Aberdeen, from October 9 at 4:09 PM CDT until October 10 at 12:15 AM CDT, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected.
Monroe residents in Amory and Aberdeen should immediately finalize preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, TN, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning, effective from October 9, 2026, at 4:09 PM CDT until October 10, 2026, at 12:15 AM CDT.
Peak wind gusts of 15-25 mph, with potential gusts up to 45 mph, are expected. This could cause limited damage to lightweight structures, break large tree limbs, and lead to scattered power outages. Plan for potential wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph. Complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and small streams could overflow. Flooding may impact structures and lead to hazardous driving conditions, road closures, and potential evacuations. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/memphis.
