A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, including the communities of Amory and Aberdeen, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, TN, issued the warning at 1:27 PM CDT today, October 9th, and it is in effect until 9:30 PM UTC (4:30 PM CDT) today. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds arrive. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and some uprooted trees. Scattered power and communication outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and small streams and ditches may swell. Flood waters can enter structures, and driving conditions will become hazardous. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, visit weather.gov/memphis.
