A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Sumter County, including Americus, by the National Weather Service Peachtree City GA, effective immediately as of October 9 at 11:19 PM EDT. Residents must act now to complete final preparations as hazardous conditions are expected.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph are anticipated, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be complete. Complete any last-minute preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This warning is effective until October 10 at 7:30 AM UTC.
