SUMTER COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Sumter County, including Americus, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, as of October 8 at 9:16 PM EDT. This watch indicates the potential for hazardous conditions, including tropical storm force winds, moderate flooding rain, and several tornadoes.
Residents should immediately begin preparations for potential impacts. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and all preparations must be completed before hazardous winds arrive. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but warns of potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph.
