Outdoor burning is not recommended. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of southeast Texas and central and southwest Louisiana, effective from 11 AM to 7 PM CDT on Friday, October 9.
This warning affects Vernon, Rapides, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, Northern Jasper, Northern Newton, Southern Jasper, and Southern Newton parishes/counties. Conditions contributing to this warning include northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, relative humidity as low as 25 percent, and temperatures up to 92 degrees.
A Red Flag Warning indicates that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop will spread quickly. Extreme fire behavior is possible due to dry fuels and ongoing drought conditions.
