TALLAPOOSA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Tallapoosa County, effective immediately. This watch includes Alexander City and Dadeville, and is in effect until October 9, 2026, at 3:15 AM UTC.

Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous wind, heavy rain, and potential tornadoes arrive. Peak winds are forecast between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured objects, large tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and several areas may experience rapid inundation in low-lying spots. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates a situation favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued.
