A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the watch today, October 9, at 4:08 AM CDT. Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous conditions arrive.

Strong winds are expected, with gusts up to 40 mph and a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings issued. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area.

The situation is somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. This Tropical Storm Watch expires today, October 9, at 12:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
