Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Tallapoosa County

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, with hazardous winds, flooding rain, and potential tornadoes expected.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Dadeville edition

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the alert today, October 9, at 6:57 AM CDT. The watch is set to expire at 3:00 PM UTC on the same day.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds reaching 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property, such as securing loose outdoor items, should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Prepare for moderate flooding, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some roads may become impassable due to flooding.

A few tornadoes are possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Tornado damage could include peeled roofs, downed trees, and overturned mobile homes.
