A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This warning is in effect until October 9 at 6:30 PM UTC.

Residents should act now to complete preparations. Peak winds are forecast between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for winds up to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated, particularly on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams could overflow, leading to road closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

A few tornadoes are also possible. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. For more information and preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
