Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Tallapoosa County

Tallapoosa County is under a Tropical Storm Watch, with potential for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes; residents should complete preparations immediately.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Dadeville edition

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, effective immediately until 9:30 AM CDT today, October 9. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the alert at 1:19 AM CDT. Residents are advised to complete all preparations now as hazardous conditions are expected.

Peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are anticipated, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, large tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 1-3 inches of rain, with higher localized amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and some roads could become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as evacuations and rescues are possible. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area.

A significant tornado threat is also present, with the potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
