TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, AL — A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Tallapoosa County, including Alexander City and Dadeville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT until 9:00 PM CDT.

Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential moderate flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are forecast, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured property and large tree limbs is possible, leading to scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding.

The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include widespread damage and power loss.
