Residents in Suwannee, Union, Bradford, Gilchrist, Eastern Alachua, Western Alachua, Central Marion, Western Marion, Southeastern Columbia, and Southwestern Columbia counties should seek shelter indoors immediately. A Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Jacksonville FL at 6:12 PM EDT warns of a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph.

At 6:12 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm seven miles east of Williston, moving north at 35 mph. This storm is impacting locations including Gainesville, Ocala, Rainbow Lakes Estates, Trenton, Bell, Worthington Spring, Ichetucknee Spring, Citra, Alachua, and High Springs. The primary hazards are landspouts and strong winds, which could cause minor damage to outdoor objects, knock down tree limbs, and blow around unsecured items.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways. This Special Weather Statement is effective until 6:45 PM EDT tonight. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT. If you are outdoors, seek shelter inside a building. Stay informed of further updates from the National Weather Service.
