Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Western, Eastern Alachua County
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Western and Eastern Alachua County, including Gainesville, warning of a strong thunderstorm with 40 mph wind gusts and potential flooding until 12:30 AM EDT.
Residents in Western and Eastern Alachua County should seek shelter indoors immediately as a strong thunderstorm is tracking north at 30 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL issued a Special Weather Statement at 11:58 PM EDT, effective until 12:30 AM EDT on October 11, 2026.
Doppler radar indicates this storm, located near East Bronson, carries wind gusts of approximately 40 mph. The NWS warns that these gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roadways.
Areas expected to be impacted include Gainesville, Archer, the University of Florida, and Newberry. If you are outdoors in these areas, move inside a building for safety.
