Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusty Winds, Heavy Rain Expected for Local Areas
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Eastern Alachua, Eastern Putnam, Eastern Marion, Western Clay, Western Putnam, and Central Marion counties until 7:30 PM EDT due to a strong thunderstorm with 40 mph wind gusts and heavy rain.
Residents in Eastern Alachua, Eastern Putnam, Eastern Marion, Western Clay, Western Putnam, and Central Marion counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 7:30 PM EDT today, October 3, 2026.
At 6:46 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Fort McCoy, moving northeast at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts around 40 mph and minor flooding due to heavy rainfall. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Localized flooding from torrential rainfall is also possible.
Impacted locations include Interlachen, Fort McCoy, Melrose, Hawthorne, Lake Delancy, Lake Geneva, Florahome, Melrose Landing, Cross Creek, and Orange Springs. If you are outdoors in these areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This statement expires at 7:30 PM EDT.
