SHELBY COUNTY, AL – October 8, 2026 – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Shelby County, effective immediately at 4:07 PM CDT today, October 8, 2026, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This watch affects residents in Columbiana, Pelham, and Alabaster, and is set to expire at 12:15 AM UTC on October 9, 2026 (7:15 PM CDT October 8).
Residents should plan for hazardous winds, with peak gusts potentially reaching up to 55 mph. Efforts to protect property, such as securing loose outdoor items, should be underway now. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, with 1-3 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts.
