Residents and visitors in Accomack County should avoid entering the water today due to a high risk of rip currents. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, October 11.

The National Weather Service Wakefield VA has also issued a Coastal Flood Statement, warning of potential shallow flooding of up to one half foot above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This coastal flood threat is expected to last until 3:00 PM EDT this afternoon, October 11.

Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions are anticipated. The primary impact of the coastal flood statement is possible shallow flooding in the most vulnerable waterfront and shoreline locations.

For your safety, remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. Additionally, do not drive through flooded roadways.
