A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from 8 AM EDT this morning through this evening, indicating a high risk of rip currents. This alert, issued by the National Weather Service Wakefield VA, also includes a High Surf Advisory and a Coastal Flood Statement.
The High Surf Advisory is active until 6 PM EDT this evening, with large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet expected in the surf zone. A Coastal Flood Statement is in effect from 7 AM this morning to 3 PM EDT this afternoon, predicting up to one-half foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This could lead to shallow flooding in vulnerable locations and localized beach erosion.
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions and the high risk of rip currents. Residents are also advised not to drive through flooded roadways. These conditions pose significant hazards and community members should prioritize safety.
