Zephyrhills Honors Mahlon Manning at Memorial Service

Zephyrhills residents gathered Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at Coastal Cremations & Funeral Care to celebrate the life of Mahlon Manning. Family and friends remembered Manning, who was born prematurely in Virginia to Callie and Mahlon Manning Sr.

Manning's family moved from Virginia to Tampa when his father transferred for Navy duty. His mother decided Tampa would be their permanent home. Manning grew up and attended school in the area. His mother encouraged his musical pursuits, leading him to play bass in middle and high school. In the 1960s, Manning formed a band that performed on The Ernie Lee Show on Channel 13.

After graduating from Leto High School in 1969, Manning became a crane operator. He later met Monica and her daughter, Jennifer, then six years old. The family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where they enjoyed renting boats for rapids. Manning, a horse owner, taught Jennifer to ride and encouraged her to learn an instrument.

Mike Halloway, Manning's childhood best friend, also remained a significant part of his life. The two served as best men in each other's weddings.
