Fairborn Earns SolSmart Silver Solar Energy Certification
The City of Fairborn received the SolSmart Silver designation, a national recognition for communities that simplify solar energy installation.
Fairborn streamlined its permitting procedures, updated zoning regulations, and trained staff on solar technology to earn the award. The city created online resources including permitting checklists, zoning guidance, and consumer protection information.
City Manager Mike Gebhart said the designation reflects Fairborn's commitment to removing barriers to renewable energy. "We're focused on modernizing our processes and helping residents and businesses take advantage of renewable energy," Gebhart said.
Chief Building Official David Yates said clearer guidance helps homeowners, contractors, and the city work together more efficiently on solar projects.
SolSmart is a national program recognizing communities for making solar energy more accessible through policy improvements.
