Fairborn Fire Department Gets New 100-Foot Ladder Truck
The Fairborn Fire Department will soon deploy a custom-built ladder truck with a 100-foot ladder and advanced rescue equipment. Sutphen Corporation in Columbus completed the truck, which awaits final lettering before entering service at Fire Station 2 near the new Fairborn High School and Middle School.
The truck allows firefighters to attack fires on multi-story structures from above and to lower people to the ground in a controlled manner during rescues, rather than requiring evacuation by stairs or ladders.
Fire Chief Ryan Williams said the truck expands the department's emergency response capabilities. "The 100-foot ladder gives our crews better access during fires, and the rescue capability allows us to bring people down safely when they may not be able to evacuate on their own," he said.
The truck displays blue lighting and the Fairborn City Schools logo, marking its location near the district's new schools. City Manager Mike Gebhart said the purchase reflects the city's commitment to protecting students, staff, and residents.
