Travelers in northwest Iowa and parts of southwest Minnesota should exercise extreme caution this morning due to areas of fog significantly reducing visibility. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls, SD, issued a Special Weather Statement today, September 28, 2026, at 5:21 AM CDT, warning of visibility occasionally dropping to around a half mile or less.
This advisory affects Osceola, Dickinson, O'Brien, Clay, Cherokee, and Buena Vista counties in Iowa, as well as Nobles County along the I-90 corridor in southwest Minnesota. The NWS advises all drivers to be prepared for rapidly changing visibility conditions. Extra caution is particularly necessary at intersections, railroad crossings, and school bus stops.
The fog is expected to dissipate and visibility to improve between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM CDT this morning. The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 9:00 AM UTC (4:00 AM CDT) / 9:00 AM CDT. Drive safely and be aware of your surroundings.
