The Smallest Possible Next Step
When your to-do list starts looking like a personal attack, don’t demand more motivation from yourself. Name the next physical action instead—and watch the fog lift.
Emily Dickinson’s “Hope” Is Not a Bird—It’s Stranger and Stronger Than That
Dickinson gives hope feathers, a song, and astonishing endurance—but refuses to call it a bird. That tiny choice turns a familiar metaphor into something wilder: a creatureless force that can live anywhere.

The Radical Usefulness of Forgiveness
Hannah Arendt did not treat forgiveness as a moral decoration or a soothing feeling. She saw it as one of the few tools we have for escaping the permanent consequences of what cannot be undone.

The Price Tag Is Back in the Driver’s Seat
Washington keeps selling disruption as strategy, while families and employers count the cost in grocery aisles, paychecks, and mortgage statements. Today’s biggest story sits where politics meets arithmetic.

The Immersive Van Gogh Experience Needs to Sit Down
Giant projections of famous paintings are not automatically profound just because the room is dark and everyone is wearing a lanyard. Still, I’m willing to defend what these shows accidentally get right.

Wallace, Idaho: The Town Under the Interstate
Take I-90 into the Idaho panhandle and stop where the freeway does something genuinely strange: it rises over an old mining town. Wallace is compact, walkable, inexpensive, and just odd enough to make a weekend feel like a proper road trip.

Paving begins this week north of Worland on US 16/20/Wyoming 789 highway improvement project
Paving begins this week north of Worland on US 16/20/Wyoming 789 highway improvement project October 7, 2026 WORLAND, Wyo – The prime contractor for highway improvements on US Highway 16/20/789 is scheduled to begin paving activities Friday. Prime contractor is McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2027. "Weather permitting, McGarvin-Moberly will begin paving between milepost 168.82 (north of the Worland city limits) and milepost 173 of US Highway 16/20 starting Friday. We appreciate the patience of all those involved in agricultural harvesting and motorists," said Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kelly Erickson of Worland. Erickson said concrete work has been rescheduled to begin in March 2027. "Paving will continue as long as fall weather holds," Erickson said. The scope of work on the $6.57 million project includes asphalt milling and an asphalt pavement overlay, chip sealing, ADA improvements, repairing and replacing concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter, and installing a roadway lighting system on 10.9 miles of US 16/20/Wyoming Highway 789. The project's starting point is milepost 165.76, the intersection of US 16 and US 20/Wyoming Highway 789 adjacent to the Washakie County Courthouse in Worland. Erickson said new intersection light poles will be installed next spring at the US 20 intersections of Washakie County Road 10 and County Road 12. Weekly public meetings will resume in the spring at McGarvin-Moberly's office south of Worland, 1001 US Highway 20 North. "We will hold weekly public meetings while concrete work is happening within the Worland city limits, beginning in the spring," said Erickson. The project was originally scheduled to begin July 9. "We really appreciate everyone's patience with the delayed start," Erickson said. Project questions may be directed to WYDOT Resident Engineer Kelly Erickson, P.E., at (307) 431-2281.
