Fugitive Rescued by Canoe After Fleeing Deputies in Flagler County

Flagler County deputies apprehended a fugitive woman Thursday afternoon after she fled into a wooded area and later required a canoe to return to shore. Tiffani Driggers, 28, had an active fugitive warrant from Walton County for felony violation of probation.

Deputies responded to a trespassing complaint at a self-storage business on Airport Road in Ormond Beach. Upon their arrival, Driggers fled into a nearby wooded area. A search involving deputies, a K-9 team, the sheriff’s office drone unit and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter failed to locate her.

Later that evening, a resident on Windsong Court reported hearing a woman calling for help from a wooded peninsula near the search area. Deputies made voice contact with Driggers across a canal. She told deputies she was exhausted, unable to cross the water and may have injured her ankle.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit was requested. A nearby homeowner provided deputies with a canoe. Two deputies used the canoe to cross the canal, locate Driggers and bring her back across the water. Volusia County Fire Rescue evaluated her before deputies took her into custody.

Driggers was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is being held without bond on the fugitive warrant. Sheriff Rick Staly commended residents who assisted deputies. "Whether it takes a patrol car, K-9, drone, helicopter, or canoe, our deputies will find a way to get the job done," Staly said.
